REVIEW: Am currently staying with my two young daughters (both under 7) at Marriott's Newport Coast Villas. When given a choice, I tend to stay at Marriott brand properties as I find that they typically do a good job. This is, however, my first stab at one of their "Vacation" properties--i.e.
What I liked about Pot Belly Pig
Location of Hotel is absolutely outstanding. From my balcony I can see the Pacific Ocean in all its glory. Amazing. It’s only a few minutes’ drive to wonderful shopping and great restaurants. Freeway access is easy. The beach is a quite a walk but a short. AMAZING!! reminded me of the Hua Hin Hotel
The room was crazy good! Full kitchen, dinning area, two bedrooms and two baths. This place could easily sleep 8! Toshiba Satellite battery
What I didn’t like Cost of Divorce
Quite inconsistent...lunch and check-in were a disaster and a bit rough, respectively. More on lunch later but the check-in process left a lot to be desired. Reservation clearly stated check in is at 4 (usually Hotels check you in by 2pm), I was put off when we arrived in at 12:30 and were firmly brushed off by the front desk. They did take my cell and agreed to call when if our room was ready earlier. Sure we were there earlier – but they didn’t have to be rude about it. After lunch, my youngest child was practically falling asleep in my arms (a got past nap time!!) and I carried her back to the front desk maybe possibly the room would be ready – it was – but of course no one remembered that I was waiting and no one had any intent of calling. Cheap Hotels in Brussels
In the morning I must have caught the front desk off guard when I asked about London Holiday Rentals for a Wall Street Journal in rather than a USA Today. The desk clerk asked me "have you ever done this before??" Of course I ahve, EVERY time I stay at Marriott. He had to run to the manager – manager got it sorted and of course charged the paper to my room.
Ugh – Hated!
Lunch at the grill by the pool was an utter disappointment – the service was a disaster. The staff at the bar made us feel like they did us a favor by taking our order and then totally ruined it. It took 30 minutes to make two burgers and fries. (There is no table service – a pager is given to you and you pick it up yourself.) I took numerous trips to the order counter to find out what the status was – no on knew a thing.
